Esporte Santos Brasil enjoys 31% container volume growth
Tecon Santos’s market share in Santos reached 40%
Terminal operator Santos Brasil handled 337,183 teu across its various facilities in the second quarter of the year, representing growth of 31% as Brazilian import and export volumes rose.
The company’s largest terminal Tecon Santos grew its market share to 40%, making it the second busiest terminal in the Port of Santos, Brazil’s largest container port.
The facility in Santos handled 296,095 teu, representing 34% growth, while Tecon Vila do Conde handled 28,934 teu and Tecon Imbituba handled 12,154 teu.
The increase in throughput helped boost the company’s financial results with net income reaching R$60m (US$11m) reversing a loss of R$9m (US$2m) in the same quarter last year.
Revenue totaled R$380m (US$72m) driven by the strong performance of the operator’s terminal in Santos, while EBITDA reached R$148m (US$28m), constituting a 250% jump and marking Santos Brasil’s highest EBITDA level since 2013.
Across the company’s three terminals, long-haul flow grew by 57% during the quarter, giving a total of 84%, while the mix of full containers increased to 78% from 73% in the same period last year.
